# Deplo vs Fly.io

## The cheapest meter is still a meter.

The fairest meter of the big clouds still bills from $6 a gigabyte of memory. A server costs what it costs.

## Three places the meter runs.

All three come from their own pricing page.

### Eight gigabytes of memory: $48 a month.

Fly bills memory at $6 a gigabyte on top of the machine, in its cheapest regions. The same eight gigabytes, on a server from one of our partners, are single digits in euros, and they come with the CPU and the disk.

### A managed Postgres starts at $38.

Before the storage, which is another $0.28 a gigabyte. Here Postgres is an app on the machine you already have, on the environment's private network, with backups to a bucket you own.

### The disk pays rent, twice.

Volumes are $0.15 a gigabyte a month and their snapshots $0.08 more. A hundred gigabytes of uploads is about $22 a month, every month, for space your server already has.

| | Deplo | Fly.io |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Memory at the price of the machine**: An app takes what the server has. Memory is not a line that grows by the gigabyte every month. | Yes | No |
| **Databases that are not a subscription**: Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis and ClickHouse managed by Deplo, on the environment's own private network, at no price of their own. | Yes | No |
| **Disk you already own**: A volume is space on your server, and a snapshot is a backup, not a second meter. | Yes | No |
| **Nothing per gigabyte out**: Deplo charges nothing for traffic. What it costs is what your provider's plan says, and a VPS plan sells you the port. | Yes | No |
| **Your own hardware**: One command installs Deplo on a VPS, a dedicated server or the machine in your office. | Yes | No |
| **A panel the whole team can use**: Deploys, logs, metrics, variables and roles in a browser, for people who do not live in a terminal. | Yes | Partial |
| **Backups in a bucket you own**: Encrypted on the server before they leave, on a schedule, to your S3-compatible bucket or to another machine. | Yes | Partial |
| **The same app in every region at once**: Deplo puts your app where your server is. Fly was built to run the same machine close to everybody, in all of theirs. | No | Yes |
| **Machines that stop when idle**: A server costs the same when nobody visits, however many apps it runs: the quiet ones ride along at no extra cost. Fly can stop a machine when traffic stops and start it again on the next request. | No | Yes |

## The same containers, metered and not.

Three answers, two numbers. Theirs comes from their published rates; ours is a plan you can buy today.

Deplo itself: free, every feature, no seats.

One server for the whole team and all its services.

No meter: the plan has one price a month.

- $2.19 per vCPU and $6 per GB of memory, per month.
- $0.02 per GB of traffic.
- One always-on service is a gigabyte of memory on both sides: here a shared-cpu-1x machine at $2.19, which carries 256 MB, plus $6 a gigabyte for the other 0.75. Volumes and a managed Postgres, from $38 a month, are not counted.
- Prices read on 2026-10-08 from https://docs.fly.io/about/pricing.

Fly.io numbers are their published list, read on 8 October 2026.

## Try Deplo before you leave Fly.io.

Click around a real Deplo on a real server for a few minutes. No email, no password, nothing to migrate yet.

## What you get on day one

Deploys, backups, logs, metrics and TLS, already on. Nothing to buy on top, nothing to hunt down.

### Let AI interact with your infra

Ask, and it's done. Connect Claude, Cursor or any assistant that supports MCP, and it can deploy, read the logs and roll back when you ask in plain words. It works with a key you create and can revoke at any time, and it can never do more than you can. Nothing connects until you create a key, and one switch turns it off for the whole team.

### Ship on every push

Your whole release process becomes a push. Connect GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Gitea once. Every push to your main branch goes live, every pull request on GitHub gets its own preview link that disappears when it closes, and a bad release goes back to the version that worked.

### Control who can do what

Your team works on the same apps without stepping on each other. Give each person exactly the access they need, like "can deploy, can't delete", and hand a freelancer or a client one project and nothing else. The activity timeline shows who did what and when, right in the dashboard.

### Host your Web app

Your app online without touching a setting. Connect the repo and you get a live link, and HTTPS the moment you add your domain. Deplo recognises your framework and builds it for you, and Postgres or Redis sits next to your app in two clicks. Same stack you ran on the cloud. Only the bill changed.

## Moving from Fly.io

An honest look at where the money actually goes.

### Is Fly more expensive than Deplo?

Less than the others, and still a meter. Three small services and a terabyte of traffic are around $40 a month there, against a server in single digits of euros. The distance opens on memory, on disks and above all on a managed Postgres, which starts at $38 before storage.

### Can I move a Fly app to Deplo?

There is no import wizard for Fly today, but the app itself travels: it is already a container. You point Deplo at the repository or at the image, move the secrets into variables, and the fly.toml stops being needed.

### What about running close to my users?

That is what Fly is for, and Deplo does not pretend otherwise: your app runs where your server runs. You can put a CDN in front of the static side, or add more servers to the same Deplo and pick where each app lands.

### What do I give up?

Machines that stop when nobody is calling, the global anycast network, and somebody else's on-call. What you get back is a bill that does not move with the traffic.

## Ten minutes from now,
it's live.

Answer three questions and pick a host, or install Deplo on a server you already have. It's free, and leaving is as easy as arriving. What you do with the money you save is your business.
